How Ji Sung Discovered a New Side to Himself

In the on-call room for cardiothoracic surgery residents on the set of MBC medical drama “New Heart” in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, Ji Sung, who plays careless trouble-making resident Lee Eun-seong, is smiling. The new drama got off to a good start with 20 percent ratings after three episodes. Besides Lee Eun-seong, it features all the usual characters of any medial drama, including chief Choi Gang-gook who overwhelms residents with his charisma, woman resident Nam Hye-seok, who is strong but arrogant, and Min Yeong-gyu, who has political ambitions and suffers from an inferiority complex.

Still, for Ji the character is unusual because he usually plays exemplary good men. Watching the actor show an unusual side, viewers have responded by saying that they have never seen him play cheeky, but that is why he looks manly more than ever. Making a successful comeback after a three-year hiatus to finish his military service, Ji said, “After all that absence, I can’t believe I’m even appearing on TV. At first, I was worried that I would make viewers turn their eyes away by overacting.”

“In real life, I am not playful like Eun-seong. I’m quite a shy person who doesn’t make friends easily. And I’m kind of taciturn,” he says. “But the new drama made me find a different side of me.” He confesses he felt a little burdened playing serious characters before he was drafted. He felt most regret about the character he played in mega hit series “All In.” “I feel I could have done better in almost every scene,” he said. “I failed to show me as I was. I should’ve been more open.”

Then, how does he feel to play a doctor? “I have observed a cardiac operation in a real operation room. I could see the heart beating just under my nose. I felt scary at first, but now I feel sorry for patients to think how painful and hard they are,” the 31-year-old actor said. In the latest episode aired on Wednesday, viewers were moved to tears to see him crying for failing to save the life of a former comfort woman for Japanese soldiers during World War II. “When I started to shoot the drama, my maternal grandma suddenly passed away. She had lived with my family since I was young, so I felt very sad and shocked,” he said. “When I shot the scene, I couldn’t help thinking about my grandma. When I was in the military, she told me that her only pleasure was to watch the rerun of ‘All In.’ So, I wanted to show my new drama to her first.”

About the time he spent in the military, Ji Sung says it was like he took a long rest. “It makes us lead a regular life and exercise regularly. I learned that life is hard not only for me but also for other people” he says. “The biggest virtue in the military is to enjoy it.”

Love on Sunday - Koi Suru Nichiyobi

I can't believe i stayed up until 4:30am yesterday to watch Love on Sunday. It is one of the slowest movies i've ever seen, the slowest one being Sukida.(How did i stay awake!?)

The plot is very simple.Akira is moving to another city because of her dad and wants to spend her last day/night with Nao, her childhood friend. However, Nao likes Tamaki and invites her to Akira's farewell party as well.Akira runs away and meets Gaku, the Ex of Tamaki...You see it's a love quadruple?!What I like about this is that it doesn't have any drama (unlike kdramas!)in it, it's realistic and you can completely relate to what Akira goes through.Who doesn't know the feeling of having a secret crush in highschool?

The film is very simple, often the shoots are done without moving the camera. The songs played suits the scenes.

All in one, it is slow in all but if you liked All about Lily Chouchou, Nobody Knows or Sukida you'll like this as well.

Synopis of Love On Sunday from IMDB
Akira had to transfer schools upon graduation because of her father's job. She
was reluctant to move because of her secret love for Nao, a childhood friend.
Nao, however, is head over heels for Tamaki. A farewell party is planned for
Akira. She had longed to spend the final day with Nao, but oblivious to Akira's
feelings, he invites Tamaki to the party instead. An argument ensues at the
party, prompting Akira to leave. Akira cannot forgive Tamaki for playing with
Nao's feelings. Then, a senior member of Akira's archery club and Tamaki's
former boyfriend, Gaku comes into the picture.

'The Host 2' Features Monsters in Cheonggye

Staff Reporter

For people who visit the Han River, some may have wondered if there is anything living under the deep waters. That fantasy was brought to life in the 2006 hit movie "The Host," and for fans that enjoyed the thriller, news of a sequel will indeed grab attention.

Chungeoram Film, producer of the film, said that in "The Host 2," (working title) more monsters will appear but this time from Cheonggye Stream. The draft for the scenario has been completed by Kang Do-yoon, better known as Kang-full, a renowned Internet cartoonist.

"The sequel will portray the lives of the city street vendors, the Cheonggye stream construction workers and the police before the stream was completed," Choi Yong-bae, the head of Chungeoram Film said.

President-elect Lee Myung-bak successfully brought back to life the Cheonggye Stream in 2005 when he was mayor of Seoul.

"We did worry that the setting was a place that symbolizes the President-elect's accomplishment. But Cheonggyecheon is already a place that represents Seoul and we thought the movie would fully portray the social and historical meaning 'The Host' has," Choi said.

The sequel will be set in 2003, when plans to reclaim Cheonggye Stream were just announced.

"The Host" (2006) directed by Bong Joon-ho, featured a monster that was born out of the pollution in the Han River. The film saw an audience of 13 million, becoming the year's blockbuster.

But the sequel is expected to feature several monsters from Cheonggye Stream which was formerly had been covered by an elevated highway after the stream was buried. More computer graphics will also be needed to capture details of the pre-Cheonggye Stream renovation, which is expected to push the budget for the film to around 10 billion won, insiders said.

The director and actors of the movie are yet to be confirmed. The production company said that they will start shooting later this year and hopefully see a release in 2009.
