Sony BMG recently announced that actor Lee Dong-gun's debut album in Japan, entitled "My Biography" and released in June, is out in Korea.

It is his first album release in Korea in the ten years since his debut in 1998, when he was still in high school.

Sony BMG said Lee signed a contract with Sony Music Japan earlier this year and subsequently released his first single in March and a repackaged version in June. The company said the album will be distributed in Korea by Sony BMG.

The album, which contains a total of 14 songs, features six songs in Korean, six songs in Japanese and two instrumental tracks without lyrics. The album also includes a DVD which shows clips from his photo shoots and recording sessions in Japan as well as bits and pieces from his everyday life.

Lee plans to hold a concert in Japan on August 22.

"Indiana Jones," "National Treasure," "Tomb Raider" and "The Mummy" drew in crowds with their treasure-hunting plotlines, proving that action, suspense, money and a dash of comedy are a winning combination.

This time around, Korea's major broadcasting channel MBC decided to capitalize on that foolproof formula with their latest Monday and Tuesday night drama, "Night After Night." In this detective story, celebrities Kim Suna and Lee Dong-gun play an unlikely pair of treasure hunters.

Actress Kim Suna, who rose to fame in the MBC drama "My Lovely Sam-soon" (2005), brings her tomboy persona to the role of a tough Cultural Heritage Administration cop. Pretty boy Lee Dong-gun, 27, takes on the fitting role of a womanizing arts scholar. The two team up to solve the crime of the century, falling in love along the way.

At the press conference held last week, Kim hinted at the comedic squabbling to come, stating: "Lee Dong-gun and I spent about four to five hours filming in the hot springs."

"I didn't want to hit him," the 32-year old actress explained, grinning. "But I was so overheated, my hand just went out."

She was referring to a key scene in the upcoming drama, where Lee's character catches Kim's in the nude while she is taking a dip in the hot springs. The outraged Kim slaps Lee. In fact, she hits him so hard he ends up falling over backwards into the water.






Lee, who was sitting next to Kim during the press conference, winced at the memory of the painful incident. Set to play an antiquities expert, this heartthrob first won female audiences over in the hit SBS drama "Lovers in Paris" (2004). His good looks and suave personality got him supporting roles in several melodramas before he started to make headlines in romantic comedies like "My Boyfriend is Type B" (2005).

Now, he gets to play a well-versed and slightly devious partner to Kim's rough and no-nonsense cop.

But will this drama deliver? Screenwriter Yoon Eun-gyung peddled the storyline as an educational experience, stating, "Our drama will put the unfamiliar topic of cultural assets in layman's terms for the masses."

While that sounds like a noble cause, it may lack the punch needed to beat out heavy-hitter "Sikgaek." The epic SBS drama topped viewer ratings charts last Tuesday.

Sikgaek's solid plot and top-notch actors drew in audiences, and it will prove hard to lure them away with cultural assets, unless it involves high-flying action, suspense and razor-sharp humor.

Judging from the preview, however, the upcoming miniseries looks more like a slapdash comedy than a tension-building mystery.

What it might lack in excitement, however, it promises to make-up for with accuracy. Lee Hyun-ju, the international and public relations team representative for the National Museum of Korea, said that "Night After Night" is the first drama to film at the museum.

"They filmed in the exhibition hall, in the museum lobby and in the scientific preservation room with a preservation specialist," she said.

Lee added that the museum has never been featured in movies or dramas before.

According to Lee, the museum staff has been providing advice on cultural assets. She also tipped off those who want to catch Lee and Kim in action.

"They film at the museum on Mondays," she said.

The drama starts airing tonight on MBC at 9:55 p.m.

When National Treasure No.1 Namdaemun burned down in a fire in February this year, Koreans emotionally fell down with it. Although the government vowed that it will restore the beloved treasure, it was evident that cultural assets needed more attention. Followed by the disastrous reminder and the on-going demand for attention to these treasures, MBC is airing its new drama "Night After Night'' next week.

"Night After Night'' is the first drama to tell the stories of national treasures and the people who dedicate their time and effort to protect and preserve them. Written by Yun Eun-kyeung, the writer from KBS' "Winter Sonata (2002),'' the 16-episode drama is expected to raise awareness of the vulnerable treasures and cultural assets dotted around the nation.

"The drama is about the love and work of young and passionate characters. Many worried that the story may unfold a bit complicatedly because we touched on the issue of the preservation of national treasures,'' Son Hyeong-suk, the producer said at a press conference held at the National Museum of Korea.

Actress Kim Sun-a will star as the patriotic national treasure security agent Huh Cho-hee, while actor Lee Dong-gun will play the smart but two-faced treasure restoration expert Kim Bum-sang. The two actors will not only show the viewers their trademark charms and charisma, but also the process of restoring and preserving important treasures including books, vases and scrolls.

"Huh has a secret about her father ― He was the reason she became a treasure-keeper. The story will unfold as the heartbroken Huh meets Kim and starts to open her heart,'' Kim said.

"As I saw the Namdaemun Gate falling on the news, it broke my heart. I regretted that we were just so ignorant. It was a chance for not only me, but for the whole public to realize the importance of our treasures. The drama will hopefully help people realize what we have to do in the future,'' she added.

It is her first television drama in three years after her success in "My Lovely Sam-soon" (2005). The image of a comical woman stayed with her, and when asked if she was worried of her Sam-soon image, she laughed. "I don't expect the viewers to rub off that image easily. But I hope they will watch the new drama and discover and focus on the new character Cho-hee,'' she said.

Lee, from the SBS drama "Lovers of Paris'' (2004), also admitted that he has been ignorant. "I play an expert in the drama, so I studied a lot. I learned about Korean treasures, their features and what they mean to our culture. I'm sure everybody in the crew has learned a lot and I hope the viewers will too,'' he said.

"We just hope the drama will help people realize what the most important treasure is in their own lives. It may be a cultural asset, or even a family member. Look around, and there are many treasure that we need to take care of,'' Son said.

"Night After Night'' will start airing at 9:55 p.m. June 23 on MBC.

This will be Kim Sun Ah's comeback drama in three years following her success in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon". Her new drama is about Heo Cho Hwi (Kim Sun Ah), a 29 year old woman who is always mistaken as someone crafty because of her natural-born sexiness. She crosses paths with Kim Bum Sang (Lee Dong Gun), an arts scholar who is crazy about virgins and a supervisor of property assets.

The image concept of the posters sees Heo Cho Hwi (Kim Sun Ah) becoming a display exhibit with Kim Bum Sang (Lee Dong Gun) looking on with interest.

According to a MBC staff, Kim Sun Ah was doing the photoshoot and went into the glass casing, striking an alluring pose, aptly displaying the sexiness of her character to perfection. But during the actual shoot, Lee Dong Gun could not control himself and burst out laughing when he saw Kim Sun Ah's face expression, resulting in the shooting to be temporarily halted.

Hallyu star Lee Dong-gun is slowly getting over the tragic death of his younger brother by keeping his schedule busy. On May 25, Lee visited Japan to hold a series of fan meetings. He is also busy with shooting a drama and releasing his latest album.

Soon after he arrived in Tokyo, Lee made a guest appearance on a live radio show and talked about what he has been up to as well as his new album. The one-hour open radio show was held at Cafe M.net in Shinjuku, Tokyo to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the founding of M.net Japan, a satellite channel that specializes in Korean cultural contents.

Lee, who is currently shooting a new drama on MBC 'Every Single Night,' also made a guest appearance on a TV show in Osaka and met the members of the press and fans in Tokyo while promoting his latest film 'Cross-Scandal' which was released in Korea last year.

Lee says he plans to perform all the songs in his latest album live during his upcoming concert in August. He also said he is content as a singer and musician and was excited to meet his Japanese fans.

Lee Soo-kyeong is returning as a crafty woman.

Lee Soo-kyeong, who became popular with KBS "Golden Era of Daughter-in-law", chose "When It's At Night" to be her next work. It's a comical melodrama that outlines the competition between a scholar of ancient art and an extreme patriot to find national treasures.

She is playing Wang Ju-hyun, who enters the security bureau of the cultural artifacts department to find a good husband. She will be in a love triangle with Huh Cho-hee, a sexy woman (Kim Seon-ah) and the expert of ancient art and a womanizer Kim Bum-sang (Lee Dong-geon).

"When It's At Night" will air on June 16 after "Yi San".

Numerous celebrities have joined in mourning for hallyu star Lee Dong-gun's brother at a chapel in Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul.

Lee's brother, Lee Joon-yub, 19, was fatally stabbed near the World Square Shopping center in Sydney, Australia, March 20. He and his friend, who were both studying in Sydney, were attacked during an argument with two Chinese gang members. The 19-year-old's body was cremated in Sydney on March 26 and Lee brought back his brother's ashes to Seoul on March 28.

Actors and actresses, close to Lee, visited the chapel to convey their condolences over his brother's death.

Han Ji-hye, Lee's ex-girlfriend, visited the chapel and grieved with Lee and his family. She burst into tears at the sight of the brother's portrait.

Han was told the news after filming "I Hate You But It's Fine"' a local hit drama ― now airing on KBS, and rushed to the hospital.

Other actors including Kim Min-jong, Cho Jae-hyun and Kim Heung-soo also visited the chapel.

Korean fans were stunned to learn that the victim was Lee's brother, flooding Lee's homepages with messages of condolence.

After hearing of his younger brother's death, Lee, who had been very close to him, immediately flew to Australia along with his parents to claim the body and attend a requiem mass at the St John's College Chapel, at the University of Sydney, which Lee's brother had attended.

A memorial service will be conducted in a Catholic church on March 31.

Lee made his debut in 1997 as an actor and singer. Since then, he has starred in several films including "My Boyfriend is Type B" and hit dramas, such as "Sweet 18," "Lovers in Paris" and "Stained Glass" in 2004, and "Smile Again" in 2006.

THE family of a murdered Korean university student hired security guards to patrol a memorial service yesterday amid fears of revenge attacks targeting the teenager's film-star brother and friends.

The slaying has become headline news in Seoul and threatens to tarnish Sydney's safe image, with the city home to the second largest population of international Korean students outside the UK.

At the Lee family's request, a team of security guards was recruited to patrol the St Johns College chapel and surrounding grounds.

Sources told The Daily Telegraph there were fears of potential retribution following the arrest and charging of two 18-year-old Carlingford youths over the attack at World Square last Thursday.

Pall bearers asked for their identities to be suppressed. Police yesterday maintained denials there was any link between the slaying and Asian crime gangs.

The killing has become headline news in Korea, where Lee Dong-gun's brother is a household name, with fan websites inundated with condolences and messages of support.

Lee Joon-yub, 19, collapsed and died on the footpath outside World Square after he and a friend became embroiled in a brawl with two teenagers at Hungry Jacks.

The teenager's 22-year-old friend, Song Jung-ho, was also stabbed in the chest and managed to flee to a Korean store before collapsing, the images dramatically captured by surveillance cameras.

He was among mourners at the memorial service after being released from hospital just 24 hours earlier, following surgery to a chest wound.

A Korean priest led the mass with two nuns, who helped support Lee's grieving parents. The heartbroken couple flew into Sydney last week and will return home to Seoul with their son's ashes.

Following the service yesterday morning, Lee Dong-gun - a heart-throb to millions of adolescent Korean girls - emerged choking back tears and clutching a photograph of his brother, while his father wailed in grief.

Korean journalist Ken Lim told The Daily Telegraph Lee family and friends feared they may be targeted by Chinese gang members. Mr Lee said the slaying had tarnished Australia's image in Seoul. Australia has the second largest population of expatriate Korean students behind that of London.

Mr Lee said more than 25,000 Korean university and English language students lived in Sydney. "Korean people have a clean image of Australia but this has tarnished it," Mr Lee said. "People are worried about the security in the city centre where there are gangs."

An argument ensued, ending with a stabbing across the road. One Korean was killed and the other critically injured, reported The Chosun Ilbo.

The dead man has been identified as the younger brother of Korean actor Lee Dong Gun, of My Boyfriend Is Type B fame. The younger Lee, 19, was studying at the University Of Sydney. He was taken to hospital but died from a massive loss of blood.

His 20-year-old Korean friend, who was with him, survived with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, reported The Sydney Morning Herald. The incident happened at World Square Complex near Chinatown just before 1am last Thursday.

It was captured on the 20 security cameras installed in the area.

GANG MEMBERS

The Australian police believe the attackers - two 18-year-old Chinese students - are members of a new criminal gang called Yee Tong. They fled the scene in a taxi but were arrested shortly after.

Dong Gun, 28, flew to Sydney with his parents last Thursday afternoon. He was known to be very close to his brother, despite their age gap.

Yesterday, a grief-stricken Dong Gun was seen holding his brother's portrait during a memorial service at the latter's university. About 100 friends and classmates attended the service, reported My Daily.

The younger Lee's body was then cremated. Dong Gun and his family are said to be returning to Seoul tomorrow. A funeral service will be held there next Monday.

A report in My Daily quoted a spokesman for Dong Gun's management agency saying that the actor has been grieving and not speaking for the past few days. He reportedly broke down in tears while identifying his brother's body at the morgue last week.

Known to be a doting older brother, Dong Gun once thought of quitting a TV serial when he heard that his sibling got teased by friends because of the comic character he played.

The Australian police have yet to establish a motive for the attack, which came as a shock to the Korean community in Sydney. The Daily Telegraph quoted a police spokesman as saying the attack was 'idiotic' and 'senseless'.

He added that such attackers 'have a point to prove' and did not care about the extensive security camera surveillance in the area.

ARGUMENT

The stabbing occurred after an argument between the two groups, but the police said there was no evidence to suggest it was instigated by the victims. The row is said to have started inside a Hungry Jacks outlet.

The four men then left the outlet and crossed the road. A fight broke out among them. Security footage showed one of the Korean guys going into a grocery and video store and collapsing inside. Both were eventually found lying near each other in the streets, covered with stab wounds.

The two attackers left in a cab, but its driver notified the police after dropping them off - which led to an arrest at a nearby railway station just 17 minutes after the stabbing. Both were living in north-west Sydney.

They were charged in court yesterday with murder, causing wounding or grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder, and common assault. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the Yee Tong gang emerged in the Sydney business district last year, and its members prey on Asian students and extort cash from them.

Meanwhile, fans of Dong Gun have been going online to show their support for him. It has been a bad year so far for the actor. He broke up with his long-time actress girlfriend Han Ji Hye in January. Last month, he was expelled from university as he missed too many classes due to filming.

On the popular Popseoul forum, fans sent their condolences. Netizen SP wrote: 'How sad and unfortunate. My prayers are with the family... even when I personally don't know them.'

After the funeral, the body of Lee Dong Gun's brother will be cremated in the suburb of Sidney.

POLICE investigating the stabbing murder of a South Korean student in the World Square complex believe it was carried out by members of a new Triad-style criminal gang, some of whom officers had identified to immigration officials in a request for their deportation.

The Herald has learned that the deportation request, on the grounds of student visa violations, was made the day before last Thursday's fatal stabbing of the 19-year-old brother of the prominent South Korean actor Lee Dong-gun.

Concerned members of the NSW Asian Crime Squad are understood to have met Department of Immigration officials to detail the activities of the gang that calls itself "Yee Tong". While police have yet to establish how many members the gang has, those identified to date are from mainland China and many are on study visas.

Yee Tong, whose members are in their late teens to early 20s, emerged in the Sydney CBD in the past year amid rising night-time violence in and around the World Square business and residential complex.

Police intelligence suggests Yee Tong has laid claim to the World Square complex, bounded by George, Liverpool, Goulburn and Pitt streets, as their turf against the long entrenched rival Big Circle- and Sing Wai-stylised Hong Kong Triad gangs in nearby Chinatown.

Five years ago, the Big Circle and Sing Wai gangs were involved in a series of violent clashes over protection rackets.

Yee Tong came to the attention of police investigating a number of brawls and knife fights in and around World Square in the past year. The gang is believed to prey on Asian students by extorting cash. It is also suspected of break-ins.

It has been at a least a decade since police last saw the emergence of an organised Triad-style gang in Sydney. The last was a gang called the "108 White Tigers" that evolved from the remnants of the 1990s' violent south-west Cabramatta Vietnamese gang, 5T.

Like Yee Tong, the 108 White Tigers preyed on overseas students in an extortion racket around the then unfinished World Square complex and the George Street cinema strip.

The 108 White Tigers, whose activities were broken up by police in a two-year operation beginning in 1998, also carried out home invasions on students' accommodation in the inner city and were involved in kidnappings and ransom demands.

Their targets were English-language students on two-year visas studying in the city, who were kidnapped or waylaid in the street and forced to disclose their bank cards and PINs.

Police have yet to establish a motive for last week's attack, which began inside the Hungry Jack's restaurant in George Street with what appeared to be an argument between two groups.

The row continued across the road and into the World Square complex. The victim was stabbed several times and died in hospital.

A 20-year-old male Korean student who was with him survived a stab wound to the upper body.

Two 18-year-old men who allegedly fled the scene in a taxi were arrested in Redfern.

The men, Michael Lee and Ivan Wong, both Chinese students living in Carlingford, have been charged with murder, causing wounding or grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder, and common assault.

They are expected to face Central Local Court today.

SEOUL, March 21 (Yonhap) -- South Koreans were stunned on Friday when they learned that the brother of a top local actor was killed in an apparently gang-related crime that took place in Sydney earlier this week.

Australian press reported that a 19-year-old South Korean man died on Thursday after being stabbed by two men believed to be members of an Asian crime ring. A 20-year-old friend of his was also attacked and is in a critical condition.

The midnight incident was captured on a number of surveillance cameras in downtown Sydney, the reports said. The two suspects were charged with murder.

South Korean police said Friday that the victim who died in the crime was the younger brother of Lee Dong-gun, a 21-year-old South Korean actor who commands great popularity here and throughout Asia from starring in a number of hit movies and television dramas. Such South Korean works are widely distributed in the region.

Lee and his parents hastily departed for Australia on Thursday, according to his aide in the entertainment business.

A South Korean student who was fatally stabbed in an attack in Sydney earlier this week was the brother of a top local actor, police in Seoul said today.

South Koreans were stunned to learn that the victim was the brother of Lee Dong-Gun, a popular actor, with internet sites flooded with messages of condolences from Lee's adoring fans.

Lee's 19-year-old brother died in the attack in the city centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Lee is one of the most popular South Korean actors and has starred in a number of hit movies and television dramas.

NSW police said the two South Korean students were attacked after an argument between them and a group of men near the World Square shopping centre, on the corner of Pitt and Liverpool streets, about 1am (AEDT) on Thursday.

The two men charged over the attack, 18-year-olds Michael Lee and Ivan Wong, both of Carlingford in Sydney's north-west, appeared in Parramatta Bail Court yesterday via videolink.

They faced charges of murder, causing wounding or grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder, and common assault.

Neither applied for bail and it was formally refused.

Both are due to reappear at Central Local Court on March 25 for mention.

Lee Dong Gun



Younger brother of Lee Dong Gun, international student in Australia, was stab to death at center of city Sydney on March 20.

The information revealed that younger brother of Lee Dong Gun and another Korean boy were at the shopping center square Sydney at 1am on March 20 and were stab by a deadly weapon.

After the accident, two of them were transported to a near hospital. However, younger brother of Lee Dong Gun has died, and the other boy could make it and passed a dangerous period.

According to the Eastern Asia newspaper in Australia, police has arrested 2 suspected people who were just 18 years old in order to investigate the case. Police is searching the reason that brings death to younger brother of Lee Dong Gun.

On March 21, parents of Lee Dong Gun took a plane to Australia to get his brother’s body.
