Popular Actor Kwon Sang Woo, who drew much attention recently over his marriage with Son Tae Young, is slated to play the leading role in the upcoming war drama “No.1 Road’.

The production company for the drama, which also produced “Stairway to Heaven” and “Last Scandal”, confirms the participation of Kwon Sang Woo in “No.1 Road”. This 13 billion won mega-production currently stands at 10 episodes.

The timeline for “No. 1 Road” is set during the Korean War and is based on the events occurring around “Route 1”, which lies between Seoul and Pyongyang. Kwon Sang Woo plays as the officer Lee Jang Woo, who displays extraordinary survival skills, friendship, cooperation and ideology under brutal war conditions.

The drama will take a documentary approach to re-enact the epic battles of the Army’s 1st Division, hence bringing a sense of realism to the viewers. It is seen by many as the television version of the 2004 movie “Taegukgi”, where the majority of its crews will also be working on “No.1 Road” to provide the expertise and technology needed to produce a high quality war drama.

Kwon Sang Woo, who rose to stardom with his drama “Stairway to Heaven”, will be collaborating with PD Lee Jang Soo again after 5 years. There have been several discussions on distribution rights and investment schemes with major Hollywood production companies.

“No.1 Road” is scheduled to begin shooting in January next year and will premiere in September 2009.

Now everyone hold your excitement first, in case you are getting too excited. Wait for the official announcement from Kwon Sang Woo before celebrating. And also pray that it doesn’t get caned like Daemool.

Yesterday was the day where the next round of drama war kicks off with the debut of KBS “Love Marriage” and a special episode of MBC “East of Eden”. But both seemed to fumble in the presence of the reigning champion “Gourmet”.

According to TNS Media Korea, the first episode of “Love Marriage” only scrapped a 6.4%, edging the special episode of “East of Eden” by 0.2% while “Gourmet” is still leading with a huge 23.3% in comparison. The rating of “Love Marriage” is inconsistent with the reviews however, with many netizens storming the net after the broadcast and giving rave reviews about the drama, especially towards Kim Min Hee’s role.

Netizens wrote, “Kim Min Hee’s acting is too eye-catching”, “Kim Min Hee’s charm is revived in ‘Love Marriage’”, “Kim Min Hee leaves me a deep impression even though she plays a comedic role this time instead of her usual cute character”.


Among all, what is probably the most disappointing to me is the viewership rating of “East of Eden” special episode. Only a 6.2% for a mega-production that gathers 6 top stars? Of course, a special episode is usually low, but still, I didn’t expect it to be this low for “East of Eden”. Going for 2 episodes back-to-back today, we can probably expect its ratings to jump above 10% at least?

Korean actor Im Ju Hwan sustained serious injuries during a car accident this morning, the 26th of August and will need to recuperate for 12 weeks. Actress Kim Tae-heewho has been in "Stairway to Heaven"and "Love Story in Harvard" has returned to Korea from the U.S.She stayed in Los Angeles for a month. It is known that she was attending English classes with her sister for her break from work in Korea. She rode her bicycle to her class from her apartment as a regular student.

Kim wrote on her Fan Homepage online that she is trying to get over the jetlag. She also wrote about her daily thoughts like how she is enjoying Damien Rice's song "Delicate" to soothe her and reading Mich Albom's "Tuesdays with Morrie". Kim said that this book helped her during the nights when she was going though insomnia.

Singer Rain has spoken about performing at the Beijing Olympic closing ceremony on Sunday. The Korean singer sang the closing theme song "Beijing, Beijing, I Love Beijing" with other Chinese stars, including Hong Kong-based Kelly Chen, Taiwanese singer Wang Leehom, and Chinese star Cecelia Han. There had been increasing curiosity surrounding Rain's participation in the ceremony, because his agency refused to confirm it. But the agency finally said Monday, "Rain signed a contract to perform at the closing ceremony some three months ago when the International Olympic Committee made an official request. But the contract required us to keep it confidential."

Before going onstage, Rain said he felt honored and excited when first asked to perform, like he had been chosen for the national squad. He also seemed overwhelmed with joy after the ceremony. Korean star Han Chae Young, popular for her role in "Delightful Girl Choon Hyang", will be making a return to the drama scene through the upcoming "Fashion King". Writer Kim Ki Ho, who also wrote "What Happened in Bali", will be responsible for the script.

"Fashion King" depicts the life of individuals working in the fashion industry with a backdrop set on "Dong Dae Mun", a place commonly regarded as the best to shop for fashion wear.

According to source, Han Chae Young was excited upon browsing the script and agreed to play the role immediately. This will be her return to drama after MBC "Exhibitions of Fireworks" shown in 2006. Cha Seung Won is the current hot favourite to play alongside Han Chae Young in "Fashion King", though it hasn't been decided yet.

Singer and actor Rain performed "Beijing, I Love Beijing" with popular Chinese entertainers during the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics held at the Main Olympic Stadium, or the "Bird's Nest," on August 24. Rain performed with popular singers Wang Lee Hom, Kelly Chen and Han Xue.

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Rain right after the performance:

Q. When did you get the offer to perform in the closing ceremony?

A. A year ago, I was asked to perform with an American artist. Later, they changed the theme to "Asian Unity" and decided to invite Chinese singers to perform. The organizing committee asked me to represent Korea. I later heard that film director Zhang Yimou, who was the artistic director for both the opening and closing ceremonies, recommended me. The plan was finalized four months prior to the Olympics, and I met with the singers a month before to record all the songs. We sang two lines each and sang the chorus together.

Q. You've performed in numerous large-scale concerts throughout your career, but isn't this your first time performing in front of 90,000 audience members and billions of TV viewers?

A. I performed in front of 40,000 audience members during my Beijing concert. However, my heart started pounding at the thought of having to sing in front of 90,000 people from all over the world and the sheer size of the whole performance. Each and every one of the singers I performed with on the evening of the closing ceremony was extremely passionate. Athletes became one and enjoyed the whole party. I felt electrified and excited at the same time. It's been a huge honor.

I don't know what he's doing there but he looks better now. Don't tell me he's going to sing a song at the ending ceremony of the olympics.
