Blindly in love to have pictures taken, Gillian Chung thought of committing suicide

More ripples from artists sex photo scandal, after Cecilia Cheung's i-CABLE interview, in which she denounced Edison Chen as 'shedding crocodile tears', another participant Gillian Chung (Ah Gil), appeared yesterday for an exclusive interview with TVB to talk about her true feelings. Ah Gil with tears streaming down her face, admitted that she agreed to the pictures because she was afraid of losing Edison and loved him blindly. She revealed that after the pictures were taken she was in a constant state of anxiety, the exposed pictures were 'hastening her death', because she felt desperate about her future, she thought about committing suicide. Because she did not want to leave her problems and pain to loved ones and friends, she finally managed to pull herself back from brink of death. About her old lover Edison, Ah Gil complained that he did not even call to apologize and outrightly said she never wants to see him again.

If I died, many people who cared about me would be very sad
Wearing light makeup, yesterday she accepted the interview at EEG boss Albert Yeung's Repulse Bay residence, many reporters were there and the parties concerned took strict security measures. Sources say Ah Gil was calm during most of the interview, but when she was asked why she had the intimate pictures taken, she broke down and cried. She acknowledged that in the past she loved Edison deeply, she agreed to the photos because she was afraid of losing him, "I don't know...really don't know....don't want to lose...maybe...." Regarding who should be responsible for the sex photo scandal, Ah Gil replied in a tone of uncertainty: "Me...yes....should blame myself....blame myself for doing this stupid thing." Ah Gil helplessly said: "When I love someone, I can be very blind, I'm very grateful for my family's support. "

After the sex photos were taken, Ah Gil confessed that she was in constant fear, she once told Edison about her worries, at that time he promised he would never show the pictures to a third party. After the photos were exposed, her psychological wound could be described as 'fatal'. During the interview, Ah Gil wiped her tears and revealed her mental journey about seeking death. She frankly said the incident made her face tremendous public pressure, she felt dejected and did not see any future, she thought of ending her life, but after some struggles decided she should not easily give up her precious life. "If I died, my problems would be passed on to the people around me, many people who cared about me would be very sad, therefore I soon gave up this idea."

The incident not only caused Ah Gil to mentally collapse, it also caused her good friends and family to feel sad and worried very much about her. Recalling what happened, she said: "I called my mom and cried so much, I told her I couldn't take it any longer. My mom was very worried about me, she said "if you don't feel like doing it then don't"."

I don't hate him but only asking why he has never called to apologize
Ah Gil said she has seen last year's Edison press conference and reports about the sex photo trial in Vancouver, but she said: "Don't know...don't know what to say." As for whether she hates Edison, she said slowly: "I don't really hate him, I'm only wondering why he has never called to apologize! Why wasn't there one single call!" However, when asked whether she can forgive Edison, Ah Gil remained silent. Asked whether she and Edison are still friends, she said firmly: “Don't know, but I think I will not see him again." As for whether she no longer loves Edison, she laughed and shaked her head: "Doesn't matter."

Asked if the bed scene photos made her feel like she lost her dignity, Ah Gil said: "I felt like losing my privacy, as if everything was exposed for people to see and know, I feel dignity is the most important!" In addition, Ah Gil revealed that of all the movies she filmed, she loves Beyond the Ken (公主復仇記) the most and was nominated Golden Bauhinia Awards Best Actress for her role in this movie. Ah Gil frankly admitted that the movie was filmed before the photos were exposed, when she received the script she felt "very scared" and "very shocked", thinking back later, she found the plot and her own reality very similar.

As for earlier reports saying Ah Gil was unable to withstand pressure and had to see a psychologist, manager Mani Fok denied this yesterday, she said Ah Gil saw a doctor for cervical problem. Also Ah Gil will officially make her comeback on the 10th by attending a press conference for a jeans brand, she will then fly to Chengdu on the 18th to earn seven-figure fee as spokesperson for a car product.

Nude pictures copied from HK star's computer

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Photos purportedly showing a Hong Kong actor partially nude with several starlets were copied from his computer when it was serviced last year and later distributed over the Internet, police said on Monday.

The photographs, seemingly of actor and singer Edison Chen in bed with singer Gillian Chung, along with suggestive images of actress Cecilia Cheung, were recently posted online, sparking a media frenzy in the celebrity-mad former British colony.

While Chung's company, Emperor Entertainment Group, initially said the photograph of the normally squeaky-clean star was a digital fake, Hong Kong police said some 1,300 private shots of celebrities had been stolen from a faulty personal computer belonging to an individual who took it to a computer shop for servicing.

"A person had taken his computer to be fixed, but during the maintenance period, someone used dishonest means to take some information from the computer and distributed this information indiscriminately to others," assistant police commissioner Wong Fook-chuen told reporters.

While the police gave no specific names, Hong Kong's Ming Pao newspaper reported the photographs belonged to Edison Chen, 27.

"A person in the shop found hidden inside (Chen's) computer, confidential nude pictures of naked female stars, which were then secretly copied," Ming Pao reported, quoting an anonymous source.

The computer shop was subsequently raided by police officers in a widening investigation across the territory, which has led to eight arrests for infringing obscene material laws, and the seizure of over 1,000 explicit images including six women, four of whom were public figures, the police said.

In a statement on his blog (www.clotinc.com/blogs/public/edc) over the weekend, Chen criticised some of the recent media coverage and widespread publishing of the images.

"I would like for u (sic) to respect the situation that everyone is in and report the truth to the fullest."

He didn't clarify whether the images had been faked or stolen, but his manager said Chen would co-operate with the police investigation.

Hong Kong's police commissioner, Tang King-shing, said the case was being treated seriously and warned the possession and distribution of such images might be illegal.

But Internet users and activists have since challenged this position, saying the police were being overly harsh.

I'm lucky fake body looks good

Jay Chou on his face superimposed on someone else's nude torso:
By Chang May Choon

February 05, 2008

HE once found his face superimposed on the picture of a nude body, but Taiwanese R&B icon Jay Chou didn't seem to mind.

-- Picture illustration
'Luckily, he has a good figure,' he told The New Paper with a laugh.

What's not funny to him, however, is the ongoing sex saga plaguing Hong Kong heart-throb Edison Chen.

In town yesterday to promote his new movie Kung Fu Dunk, Jay, 29, expressed sympathy for Edison, his co-star in the 2005 hit film Initial D.

A week ago, intimate photos of what allegedly appears to be Edison with singer-actress Gillian Chung and ex-girlfriend Bobo Chan were circulated online.

Hong Kong reports said the leak happened when Edison got a friend to send his laptop for repairs some time ago.

Raunchy pictures of what appears to be Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung and Joey Yung also surfaced, and the media speculated there would be more victims in the form of Edison's ex-flings, like Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai.

When asked to comment, Jay, who was once romantically linked to Jolin, said: '(Such an incident) is hurtful for any artiste, especially female ones.

'It's not fair to the artiste that the photos got out. Everyone's shocked by the photos and everyone's discussing them, but I hope no more photos will surface.

'Let this come to an end already.'

What if a similar incident was to befall Jay, who is himself a budding director with the romantic flick Secret to his name?

Well, it couldn't, he seemed to say.

Jay claimed he does not like to take self-portraits, and it is his female assistant who took the few photos stored in his handphone.

She likes to borrow it because it has a better camera function, he said.

To this, the woman in question giggled in one corner of the room.

What's more, Jay claimed he never sends his phone for repairs.

'(If it's spoilt), I'll just change to a new one.'

After all, there are probably dozens of advertisers queuing up to get his endorsement.

His pop-music influence is legendary, and movies that boast his name have all turned out to be box-office hits.

The latest is Taiwanese veteran director Kevin Chu's Kung Fu Dunk, which stars Jay as a gongfu disciple who gets recruited by a businessman (Eric Tsang) to play varsity basketball and slam-dunks his way to fame.

SUFFERS IN SILENCE

Baron Chen and Chen Bo-lin co-star as his suave teammates while Charlene Choi plays the team's manager.

Director Kevin, who is banking on Jay's appeal to draw the crowds when the film opens on 7 Feb, praised his lead actor.

He said at the media conference held at Hotel InterContinental yesterday that Jay went beyond expectations.

Kevin also spoke of how Jay suffered in silence despite sustaining injuries while filming the slam-dunk stunts that required him to be suspended by wires in midair.

He said Jay's body hit the backboard so many times during the 150 retakes that he ended up with 16 bruises.

But the actor only mentioned it the next day as he did not want the director to feel sorry for him and cut short the filming.

Kevin said: 'This will be a basketball classic. There are other basketball films but we do it better because we have Chinese gongfu.'

Jay himself feels the movie is a breakthrough for him, as he got to do comedy and flaunt gongfu skills for the first time.

He composed the song Zhou Da Xia (Swordsman Chou) for the film and he hopes fans will call him that instead of his current nickname Zhou Dong (Chairman Chou).

He thinks Zhou Dong sounds old-fashioned and it's time to stop using it.

'I've been watching gongfu films since young and I once fantasised about becoming a gongfu star. It's just that I learnt the piano instead of the nanchaku (a Chinese weapon).'

So, what's next?

Jay said he will be performing at the CCTV Chinese New Year countdown special in Beijing.

Yumiko Expresses Support For Gillian

31 January 2008
Emma Lam

As filming for youth movie Long Live Love <愛情萬歲> draws to a close, cast members held a celebration yesterday to mark the occasion. Among those attending the dinner were Yumiko Cheng (鄭希怡), Ken Hung (洪卓立), Sherman Chung (鍾舒漫) and Jason Chan (陳柏宇).

In light of the recent scandals surrounding indecent photographs that have appeared on the internet, Yumiko admitted that she had seen the photographs, but she has not looked closely to see whether or not they are genuine. As many of the artists involved are her friends, she said that she will support them.

Asked if she felt that her earlier "wardrobe malfunction" incidents were insignificant in comparison to these reports, Yumiko said that there should not be a comparison between them and she has already put her misfortunes behind her.

Yumiko said that she had not called Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐) after the news broke, but believes that she is a strong character who will not be too affected by this incident.

Star apologizes to six artistes in 1,300 racy internet photos

Tuesday, February 05, 2008
Singer and actor Edison Chen Koon- hei, embroiled in an internet porn scandal, yesterday apologized to those who may have been affected by the posting of compromising nude photographs - and called on the public not to further circulate such pictures to allow the victims to heal their wounds.
For the first time in the scandal, which purportedly involves Hong Kong pop and movie stars, Chen also confirmed he was assisting the police with their inquiries into the case. Chen's apology, which was contained in a video released by his lawyer, came as police said they had uncovered more than 1,300 pictures involving six women, two of whom had yet to be identified.

In the video, Chen said he was "hurt, pained and perplexed" that a number of people's lives had been affected.

He urged internet users not to transfer the pictures anymore so as to help those affected heal their wounds. He said he had been cooperating with police since the saga erupted but that he could not comment further since there was now the possibility the case could end up in court.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vincent Wong Fook-chuen said the source of the pictures had been traced. But he would not confirm reports they had been taken from Chen's computer.

"The source of the case has been found. We believe very much that [it was] because of [someone taking his] computer for repairs and that others had, via illegal means, taken out the [obscene] information," he said.

He added whether the pictures were authentic or not is now the focus of police investigation.

The 23-year-old man arrested in Central last Saturday will be charged with the dishonest use of computers with criminal intent, which has a maximum penalty of five years' jail. The man will appear in Eastern Court today.

Wong said of the six women found in the photographs, two were not known to them - but he was certain that no overseas artistes were involved. None of the women were named.

People who had only transferred the obscene picture files to friends had not violated the law, but those who transferred them to the public - for example via internet web pages - were breaking the law, said Wong.

He said there were three clauses relating to the possession of obscene material that constitute a violation of the law, namely: publishing obscene material; possession for publishing; and inserting obscene material for publishing. He also maintained the police had not used excessive manpower as the whole case had been handled by 19 men from the Commercial Crime Bureau.

He said those unhappy with the eight-week detention of the first person detained in the case, 29-year-old Chung Yik-tin, can appeal through normal procedures.

Wong said it may not be necessary for all those affected in the case to appear in court in the future, though the police will contact the six women "if there is a chance to do so."

Wong urged anyone whose nude pictures had been posted on the internet to report to the police.

"In my 20-plus years as a policeman, I have not come across such an issue," Wong said in response to questions as to why police had not acted against other obscene photos circulating on the internet.

Hong Kong stars slam nude photos

BEIJING, Feb. 2 -- The Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild on Wednesday condemned the increasing circulation and uploading of obscene photos on the Internet, purportedly of local celebrities.

The latest example posted online Tuesday was a photo of a partially dressed woman resembling actress Cecilia Cheung. Other victims have included pop stars Edison Chen and Gillian Chung, who both appear in bed together semi-naked.

Alan Tam, the guild's chairman, said the issue had been elevated to a social topic. "The circulation of such obscene photos has created a bad atmosphere in society," he said.

Tam warned people to take care with their personal digital files.

A guild board member, Astrid Chan, said obscene photos of members of the public had also been uploaded, setting a bad example for youngsters.

She said the artists involved had yet to get in touch with the guild, but the management company of one had been in contact.

Chen's management company, Rich and Famous, confirmed it had reported the matter to police. Chen is out of town for an indefinite period, a company spokesman said.

"We believe this incident was more likely a joke in bad taste," a spokesman said. "But it appears [the person who put up the photos] has an intention to attack Edison deliberately and we should stop that."

Chung's label, Emperor Entertainment, also reported the matter to police. Her company insisted the photos were manipulated with computer software and urged the media not to publish the photos.

Hong Kong police launched an investigation Tuesday as more nude pictures purported to be of Hong Kong stars were posted online.

A police spokeswoman said the Commercial Crime Bureau was investigating "two reported cases of publishing indecent articles on the Internet."

In 2006, a Hong Kong tabloid magazine that published photos portraying Chung changing her clothes was classified as class II indecent, meaning it should not have been sold to people under the age of 18.

HK shock at 'obscene' celeb photos

Celeb sex scandals are nothing new in the West, but a series of obscene photographs seemingly featuring local stars has sent shockwaves through the Hong Kong entertainment biz.
Pictures that appear to capture singer-actor Edison Chen and pop singer Gillian Chung engaged in sexual intercourse hit a popular online news discussion forum Jan. 27. They were followed a day later by pics that purport to be Chen and TV actress Bobo Chan and other pics showing film thesp Cecilia Cheung at Chen's apartment.

While the stars' reps insist the pics are doctored, authorities and experts were working to check their authenticity.

While police say they are investigating two reported cases of publishing indecent materials on the Internet, the Hong Kong Performing Artists Guild called for government action to curb indecent and obscene material in the media.

The guild deemed the incident not only "tragic for the entertainment industry, but for all Hong Kong people. Such immoral behavior is poison to the minds of youth today."

The pics have also raised questions about what some commentators deemed excessive behavior by the region's stars. Postings of the Chen photos were accompanied by a list of his other alleged conquests, and Hong Kong has in recent years witnessed two separate "wardrobe malfunctions" by actress Yumiko Cheng.

The incident has broader political ramifications, too.

As police issued warnings that distribution of such photos breach the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance, operators of websites and online forums moved quickly to delete pictures and steer clear of possible jail sentences and heavy fines.

But the self-censorship also truncated discussion of the photos and their societal impact, riling free-speech advocates.

"Nothing is allowed to be discussed, whatever happened to freedom of speech? When did Hong Kong become China?," posted one forum user.

Although the photos came down from the websites, they spread like wildfire via email and were posted to some 400 other websites.

The pics even raced across the Internet into China, despite a recent SARFT crackdown on online obscenity. A file purportedly containing all the photos was reportedly being downloaded 10,000 times a minute.

Star apologises after nude pics leak online

Popular actor and singer Edison Chen has apologised after images appearing to show the Hong Kong star partially nude in the company of several starlets leaked onto the internet.

In a video statement Chen, 27, called the postings of the photographs "intentionally hurtful and malicious".

"I hereby use this opportunity to apologise to anyone who has been affected by this strange, strange ordeal," Chen said.

Police believe the images were copied from Chen's computer when it was serviced last year.

"If you ever downloaded any of these images, please do not forward them to anyone ... If you are still in possession of these images, I urge you to please destroy them immediately," a subdued-looking Chen added in the video.

The photographs, which appear to show Chen in bed with singer Gillian Chung, along with suggestive images of actress Cecilia Cheung, were recently posted online, sparking a media frenzy in the celebrity-mad former British colony.

Hong Kong police said some 1300 private shots of celebrities had been stolen from a faulty personal computer.
