Jo Hyun-Jae "is happy to portray a strong character" (June 11, 2008 -- Joey News")

"I was often cast in love drama; that's why I was happy to have the chance to portray a strong, masculine character."

As the lead actor in the movie "G.P.506" (directed by Gong Su-Chang), Jo Hyun-Jae said at the DVD publicity event at Seoul's New S. D. studio last month that "he was delighted to play a kind of character he had not attempted before."

In the DVD Audio Commentary (also participating were actor Chien Ho-Jin, director Gong Su-Chang, representatives of the production company, etc.) JHJ said he was pleased with his performance in this movie. He had always been portrayed as a gentle man, so he wanted to project a whole new image of a fine, strong man.

"I'm used to playing men in love, which is why it is interesting to play a strong masculine character for a change. My previous acting experience was mostly in love drama, so I wanted to experiment with playing a macho character. I had immense satisfaction and pleasure playing this dark character."

In the thriller "G.P.506", JHJ plays a unit leader in a closed military camp in which mysterious deaths have occurred. It is an extremely masculine role. JHJ, who will start his military service in July, is especially pleased with having participated in this movie just before he enters the army.

In the "G.P.506" DVD Audio Commentary, director Gong Su-Chang expressed regret the movie did not arouse a lot of public discussion. And actor Chien Ho-Jin indicated he was confident such non-mainstream movies had a place in the Korean movie industry.
